The Bruins got a much needed win against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Unlike their last game against the Edmonton Oilers, they had a good third period. Against the Oilers, they had a 3-2 lead going into the third, but soon lost it to a bad giveaway from Brandon Carlo. He tried to pass the puck to his defense partner, Matt Grzleck but whiffed on the pass and Leon Draisaitl picked off the pass and buried it top shelf. Soon after, the Bruins defense fell apart. The Oilers set up in the offensive zone and found Draisaitl again. Then the Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark was sprawled in the crease and Cody Ceci easily buried it in the back of the net, for a 5-3 win.
The Bruins started the game against the Devils with a late goal in the first period at 2:33. Karson Kuhlman picked off a pass that Ty Smith of the New Jersey Devils intended for his teammate Jesper Boqvist, and gave a pass to Anton Blihd for a one timer, and Erik Haula got the rebound and put the puck 5-hole of Jonathan Berneir the goaltender.
Later in the second period, the Bruins player Brad Marchand shot the puck from the blue line on the power play and it slipped through the 5-hole of Bernier at 15:50. Charlie Coyle was screening the goalie so Bernier couldn’t see. Only 28 seconds later, Dawson Mercer of the Devils scored off a 3-on-1. Curtis Lazar of the Bruins made a pass to Grzelcyk, but hit Jake DeBrusk who was on the ice, and Jesper Bratt got the puck and Brandon Carlo was left on a 3-on-1. Bratt passed it to Andreas Johnsson, who passed it to Dawson Mercer who tucked it in. Jermey Swayman the Bruins goaltender could not do anything.
At 13:08 in the second period Marchand scored again. The Devils had just had a 2-on-1 and Swayman saved it. After that Charlie McAvoy passed the puck to Marchand, and he passed it to David Pasternak, who shot it and Marchand buried the rebound farside
At 35.8 in the second period Jesper Bratt scored off a bounce. Coyle bounced the puck off the boards behind his net, and it bounced off the ref right to Mercer, who passed it to Bratt and he one-timed it into the back of the net.
At 9:11 of the third period, Ryan Graves of the Devils coughed up the puck to Pasternak who cut into the zone, did a move to the backhand, drove to the net, and Patrice Bergeron got the rebound that was literally on the goal line.
At 53.6 of the third period the Devils had their goalie pulled, and Thomas Nosek of the Bruins pressured Bratt, who made a bad pass and ended up right on the stick of DeBrusk who fired it into the empty net.
Overall, I feel like they played very well compared to their game against Edmonton. Tonight, (as of Sunday, November 14 EST) the Bruins are playing against the Montreal Canadiens, who are their rivals. That is going to be a good game. Check back online for a recap of that game.
